Located on the western coast of Maharashtra and at the banks of Arabian sea, Mumbai city is seen in the list of biggest tourist destinations of India. Mumbai is rich in natural heritage, architectural monuments as well as historical evidences. Amusement parks and religious places have a long list to visit in Mumbai too. Apart from this places related to tourism, another fascinating point is Bollywood.
The infrastructure and locality here in Mumbai has got a separate fan base. This places are big tourist attractions in themselves. Whether it is markets like crawford market, Bhindi bazar, zaveri bazar, heera panna market, etc. or local trains of Mumbai, or dharavi slums; Everything in the city plays its significant role in making this place a biggest tourist attraction.
This are some places considered as prime tourist locations across Mumbai,
Gateway of India
This monument was constructed in 1913 and is currently under Archaeological survey of India. This monument is 26 feet tall and covers around 15 metres of area. There is a long list of places to visit around Gateway of India. This list starts with Indian museum ship-Vikrant, this is the nearest one and is followed by statue of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Bowen Memorial Methodist Church, Chatrapati Shivaji Vastu Sangrahalaya, Jehangir Art Gallery and a lot more ahead. This spots are at walkable distances from Gateway.
Elephanta Caves
This caves are located in Gharapuri and are easily reachable from Gateway of India. It takes nearly 1 hour to reach elephanta island through boat or ferry. Elephanta cavea are recognised as UNESCO World Heritage site. This caves are considered holy according to hindu religion and have statues of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati with a shivlinga inside the cave. This statues resembles marriage ceremony of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, whereby the statue of other Gods and Goddess are shown showering blessings.
Haji Ali Dargah
Haji Ali Dargah is another big tourist attraction. Irrespective of religion, cast, community this place experience thousands of devotees on daily basis. One cannot explore Mumbai without visiting Haji Ali Dargah. There are places like Nehru Planetarium and Mahalaxmi race course which are worth visiting.
Mahalaxmi Temple
Mahalaxmi Temole and Haji Ali Dargah are both located at same railway station- Mahalaxmi railway station. And so this places go one after other in the list. Mahalaxmi temple carries historical and religious importance and hence is an important place to visit. Along with this places there are many other spots like markets and temples to visit too.
Global Vipassana Pagoda
This monument is hardly 10 years old and was inaugurated by former president of India Mrs. Pratibha Patil. This monument is located on an island which can be reached through Borivali- Gorai ferry, Malad- Marve ferry or through road from bhayander. Global Vipassana Pagoda is a kind of meditation centre built according to culture of Myanmar holds the capacity to entertain 8000 Vipassana meditators at a time. One must visit this place if planning a tour to explore Mumbai on a full fledge basis
The Pagoda is not the only thing one can visit there, number of beaches like marve beach, aksa beach, manori, gorai beach, etc. are all attached to the shores of pagoda. Besides this, Asia’s biggest theme water park- Water Kingdom and one of the largest amusement park- Essel world are also located on the same island. How can someone skip going to this places when on a tour to Mumbai.
Mumbai also offers number of places to relax and to get positive vibes from. This list have beaches, chowpatties and Queen’s Necklace- The heart of Mumbai. Marine drive, Bandstand, Bandra-Worli sealink, Juhu chowpatty, etc are places one must visit. Along with other places in Mumbai, this places can make you feel relaxed and can create positive aura around you. Visiting Mumbai and this places specifically can give you overwhelming experiences and life-long memories.
